Strategy & Planning

South Australia Police (SAPOL) strives to continuously improve its service delivery to the community. A number of strategic planning and reform initiatives underpin this process and guide our operational approach.

Embracing reform ensures SAPOL remains at the forefront of policing, utilising problem solving and continuous improvement in an endeavour to further improve service delivery and community safety in South Australia.

South Australia Police Future Directions Strategy

The Future Directions Strategy charts SAPOL's course as a progressive and responsive organisation with a focus on achievement, directing our responses to issues of concern to the community and providing the basis to meet emerging challenges.

It sets SAPOL's direction by defining an organisational framework for effective service delivery. This is achieved through our Mission and Vision, Core Functions, the South Australia Policing Model, recognition of our strong and flexible leadership focus and eight Key Management Areas.

Corporate Business Plan

The SAPOL Corporate Business Plan 2006-2007 is the principal planning document for the organisation in this business period. In accordance with the Future Directions Strategy, a planning framework exists for a range of strategies linking our Core Functions to broad based service delivery outcomes for the community.

Detailed information on SAPOL's service delivery against the Programs and Sub-Programs and the eight Key Management areas for each year are shown in our Annual reports.

Project Compass

Project Compass is a two-year corporate project that commenced in 2005 to ensure that SAPOL maintains the momentum of previous reform programs in providing substantive improvements in community safety and service delivery.

Led by Assistant Commissioner Fahy, the project focuses on leadership, problem solving, crime prevention and partnerships. It is examining a variety of other crime and policing issues including effective performance management to support an achievement culture.

Moreover, with the advance of new technology and globalisation, Project Compass is examining new ways of targeting organised crime through identifying groups that are high risk in terms of their criminal activities and exploring the merits of establishing a centre for leadership development or excellence, a crime faculty, the broader use of volunteers, and the Future Directions Strategy for 2006-2010.
