Keeping SA SafeSouth Australia Police (SAPOL) provides a broad range of police and community services to ensure the safety and security of the South Australian community. Formed on 28 April 1838, the South Australia Police was Australia's first centrally organised police service. Since that historic day, we have forged a reputation for achievement that we continue to build on today. Through our workforce, comprising over 5000 police and civilian employees, we are responding to the challenges presented by our diverse and ever-changing environment, while striving to provide the highest possible level of service to the community. The jurisdiction of South Australia covers a vast area of almost one million square kilometres, with a population of over 1,500,000. With a focus on crime reduction we are continually developing local problem-solving partnerships that see police and support staff in our 14 Local Service Areas working closely with communities across the State. The Local Service Areas are supported by our centralised Crime and Operations Support Services that provide specialist expertise and resources. Guided by our Future Directions Strategy, we are charting our course as a progressive and responsive organisation, while ensuring our reputation for honesty, integrity and community satisfaction continues to grow. |
